My First Thrifting Experience + Tips...

 Happy Wednesday Lovelies!
I hope you all are having a nice week. I went thrifting for the first time 2 weeks ago and instead of a regular outfit post today, I thought I should share my experience plus some tips. As a fashionista who tries to limit her spending allowance on clothes and shoes, I became fascinated with the idea of thrifting and finding unique or vintage pieces for a very low price. I follow other fashion bloggers who often thrift and they find amazing pieces from Thrift stores. Once they style it, one would never have guessed the piece was from a Thrift store, you would think it was from a regular store at the mall.
During this last summer, I looked up several Thrifts stores around my area but I couldn't find one that was worth checking out until a fellow blogger, Naja Diamond posted a picture of her thrifted items with the location of the Thrift Store on Instagram. Guess What? It was a new store in my area, about 10 minutes away from my house. The next weekend I had off school and work, I drove up there just to check it out and I was surprised to see how organized the Thrift Store was, I immediately grabbed a cart and started browsing through the goodies. I ended up with some new pieces for a fraction of the price I would normally spend for an item at a regular store. I seriously cannot wait to style the amazing pieces I got...:)
 What I got:
 Blue Plaid Blazer (Kasper)
Classic Printed Vest (Tommy Hilfiger)
 Navy/Amy Green Plaid Skirt
Red High Waist Pants
3 Colored Pencil Skirts (Burgundy, Navy and Pink)
Total Spent: $26.14
My Personal Tips:
1. Research and read reviews of your local thrift stores. After getting the info for my local thrift store from Naja, I went to read the reviews online and I found out nothing but good reviews about the place.
2. Find a day that you are free and have plenty of time to really look for stuff at the store. Also go as early in the day as you can to get the first dibs.
3. Try to be patient and really go through the racks of clothes, you never know what treasure you will find hidden in those racks.
4. Disregard sizes and use your perception. If you think it will fit, put it in your cart. (for example, the Blue Plaid Blazer I got is a size 4 and I normally wear a size 8, but I love it so much that I couldn't pass on it. So I tried it on and luckily it fit me perfectly).
5. After picking out some stuff you like, go to the fitting rooms to try them on. This step is important because some stores do not accept returns, once you buy, it yours. So don't take it home and then see if it will fit, try it on at the store.
6. Make sure you do not leave you stuff lying around in the shopping cart, watch it at all times cos someone else may want a piece you have and since there is only a slight chance that the store would have 2 of the same item, some people may grab your pieces and pay for it.
7. While checking out, ask the cashier if they have any special discount or promotions going on. (My local one always have 50% off every Sundays and Mondays, so I plan on going there on those days to save more money).
8. Finally thrift stores are the perfect place to shop for trendy items without breaking the banks. My local one has lots of Plaids, Leather and Burgundy pieces and those are major trends for this season.
I hope the tips above help and feel free to share some of your own thrifting tips below...:)
Thank you so much for stopping by, check back to see how I style my thrifted pieces.
Enjoy the rest of your week!

  1. Wow! You found some amazing items! That plaid skirt is to die for. I love the blazer as well. And thanks for posting tips on thrifting. I've been thrifting for what seems like infinity. But one thing that I don't do as often as I should is TRY ON the things before I buy. LOL!
