Natural Hair Chronicles: The 1 year Update!

Happy Saturday Lovelies!
My hair after I took out my braids, in it's slightly stretched state.

How are you all doing? I hope you all are having a wonderful weekend. So I recently took out my braids after almost 3 months and I was pleasantly surprised to see how much my hair has grown in the last couple of months. I shared a picture on Snapchat and I got a lot of snapbacks asking me to share how I was able to grow my hair to this length in 1 year. Check out my big chop reveal HERE and my 6 months update HERE. This is my 1 year update and some of the things I have been doing to care for it.
Hair Stats
My hair has gotten much fuller and healthier in the past 1 year. It is between 5.5 - 6 inches in length after I measured it. One thing I love about my hair is that the length is pretty much consistent throughout unlike when I had processed hair some parts of my hair were longer than some parts. My shrinkage is still very real but I am better at managing it.
Hair Routine
I still use the same Shea Moisture products that I have been using since I big chopped (see below for the list) but I have also added some products like a detangling butter. I still wash my hair once a week whenever it's not in a protective style. My routine after a protective style is pretty much do a hot oil treatment (olive/coconut oil placed in microwave for about 5 minutes) then I section my hair into 4 and add the oil to my scalp in small sections. Then I cover it in a plastic bag and leave it for about 30 minutes before washing and deep conditioning. I also let it air dry whenever I wash it.
Natural Hair/Protective Styling
As much as I love wearing my lil 'fro out, I pretty much keep it in Protective styles (e.g braids and crochet braids). So I do a protective style for about 1-2 months (did my last braids for almost 3 months  because I have been busy with school) and then wear my natural hair out for about 2-3 weeks before going back to another protective style. When I wear my hair out, I pretty much wear it in twist-outs, flat twists and bantu knots styles. I still haven't used any form of heat or harsh chemicals on my hair since I cut it.

At the rate at which my hair is growing, I cannot wait to see how long it will be in a couple more years. I am so loving this natural journey and it's absolutely one of the best decisions I have ever made. If you have any more questions about how I care for my hair, feel free to ask below in the comments...:)
