My DIY: Printed Ankara Shirt Dress + McCalls 7351 Pattern Review.

Happy New Week Lovelies!

Printed Shirt Dress (I made)
Fabric: Vlisco & Pattern: McCalls 7351
Shoemint Hot Pink Pumps (super old)
ASOS Gold Skinny Belt (old)
Colourpop "The Rabbit" Ultra Satin Lipstick
How are you all doing? Today's post features yet another dress that I made. Dresses are definitely my favorite pieces to make. This dress is different because it is a shirt dress.  I really like stepping out of my comfort zone in terms sewing, as this was my first shirt dress I learned a couple of new sewing skills. I wore the dress to church by pairing it with a gold thin belt and a pair of pink pumps.
P.S: For those that sew, I have a pattern review below...:)
Pattern Review: McCalls 7351
Pattern Description: Dresses have pointed collar, collar and front bands, fitted bodice, back pleat, self-lined yoke, forward shoulder seams, French darts and narrow hem.
Pattern Sizing: I cut a size 16 C cup size.
Fabric Used: 100% Cotton Fabric from Vlisco
Were the instructions easy to follow? Yes super easy, I following the instructions step by step since I had never made a shirt dress and I was able to understand it
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I absolutely love the flared skirt, give it that vintage and lady like vibe. I also love that it has different cup sizes so one can get the perfect bust fit.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made? The only change I made was to lengthen the sleeves by about 2 inches and added a puffy/gathered sleeve heads.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? Yes & Yes! For a shirt dress, it's relatively easy to make and I enjoyed the process of learning new sewing skills.

Thank you so much for stopping by and have a blessed week!

  1. Gorgeous fabric - colors and pattern are fun and look great with that pattern. The edits you made to the pattern are perfect for you! I hope to sew something that beautiful someday...
