How are you all doing? I hope you are getting ready to celebrate Christmas with your loved ones. I am so looking forward to spend time with my family and of course enjoy some Jollof Rice. Today's post will be my last DIY post of the year and I still cannot believe that we only have a few days left in this year. Every year since I started sewing, during the Christmas season I make at least 1 red colored dress/jumpsuit. I love the bold color and it's definitely perfect for the season. This year I decided to make a fitted lace dress and I am so happy with the way it turned out. I will share all the construction details below...:) I styled the dress with gold belts and pumps. Also I made the dress to participate in the holiday challenge the sewing community hosts on Instragram called  "Little Red Dress Project." Check out this hashtag #thelittlereddressproject to see more fun red dresses. I am wishing you all a Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays!
Construction Details: I made this dress using fabrics from Joann's Fabrics, the lace is a recent store buy and the satin I got about 2 years ago. I combined McCalls 6893 and Simplicity 8534 to get this style. I love the flounce detail of Simplicity 8634, I cut a size 16 based on the finished hip measurement of 42 in and it fits perfectly. For McCalls 6893, I have actually made this before but the last time I made it I didn't follow the pattern instructions and so it was not as structured as this one. I added interfacing to the bustier portion under the lace and boning to the side seams of the bustier as seen on the pattern instructions. I also shaved off about 2 inches of the side seams to accommodate for the inches I have lost. Since it was a very fitted dress, I had to make sure the fit was right for my body but I am so happy with the finished result.
Thank you so much for stopping by and have a wonderful Christmas!
